The brief
A senior fintech engineer needed a portfolio that matched the seriousness of their work. They'd been building payment infrastructure, PCI-compliant systems, and enterprise integrations for years — but their online presence was either LinkedIn or nothing.
They wanted something that communicated technical depth without being flashy. Something a hiring manager or potential client could look at and immediately understand: this person builds things that handle real money.
The approach
The design had to feel like the work itself — precise, minimal, and confident. No animations for the sake of it. No stock photos. Just clear information, well-structured, with enough visual craft to feel intentional.
- Palette inspired by money — olive greens, warm golds, aged paper tones. The colours of banknotes, ledgers, and old financial institutions. It doesn't scream fintech — it whispers it.
- Serif headers with monospace details — DM Serif Display for headings gives the authority of a financial broadsheet. Monospace for technical metadata signals the engineering underneath.
- Wall Street ticker — the scrolling status bar at the top is inspired by stock exchange tickers. Tests passing, uptime percentages, CI/CD status — real-time engineering metrics displayed like market data. It tells you everything about this person before you read a word.
- Structured competency cards — payment infrastructure, security compliance, API design, DevOps — each with specific detail, not buzzwords.
- Timeline experience section — reverse-chronological roles with real responsibilities, not vague descriptions.
Technical decisions
Built with Astro, deployed to Cloudflare Workers. Static HTML, no JavaScript framework in the browser. The site loads in under a second — which matters when someone's reviewing 20 portfolios in a row.
The whole site is a single page with smooth scroll navigation. No unnecessary routes, no page loads between sections. You land, you scroll, you see everything. The information architecture mirrors how someone actually reviews a candidate — top-level summary, then depth.
The result
A portfolio that looks like it was designed by someone who understands fintech — because it was designed in collaboration with someone who works in it every day. The site communicates credibility through specificity: PCI-DSS compliance, ISO 27001 frameworks, payment gateway integrations. Not generic "full-stack developer" claims.
The engineer now has a professional presence that goes beyond LinkedIn. Something they own, something that represents them properly, and something that loads fast enough to impress the kind of people who notice those things.
